An online reader is normally more objective and less attentive than an offline one. Therefore, online writing is also different from a literary piece. There are certain dos and don’ts of writing an online article.
First let us look at the dos:
*Choose a topic you are comfortable with. It must have some important information or views to offer to the readers.
*Put across your ideas in as simple way and as brief as possible.
*Write to-the-point.
*List the main points—possibly a numbered or bulleted list.
*The list should start with the most important information.
*A short explaining paragraph can accompany each of these points.
*Use your own words and style.
*Make sure the interesting style helps the readers connect with the writer.
*Write a two-three sentence introduction, once you are through with these, clearly spelling out what you want to say and why you want to say.
*Write an equally small conclusion wrapping up the whole thing.
Now consider the don’ts:
*Don’t write everything that comes to your mind.
*Don’t use big words and complex sentences.
*Don’t use others’ style.
*Don’t say something new in the conclusion.
The whole idea of an online write-up is to share some important information and views quickly with the readers and therefore there is no place for ambiguity, complexity or literary flourishes in online writing.
