Need and Greed

Need and Greed, as much similar the pronunciation may sound; the meanings of the words differ seminally. The former is essentially circumscribed while the later overwhelmingly boundless. Need is something that stands constant for everyone while the spectrum of greed is so wide that it cannot even be properly framed. What is more interesting is the fact that these two terms are the quintessential yardstick of determining one’s “happiness”- the happiness of the soul, something that we all desire but very few enjoy. In our pursuit of material assets and social recognition we tend to ignore the soul-(what it wants and how little it wants). As a result, at the end of the day most of us are left we the feeling of either unhappiness or dissatisfaction or cravings for more. And the more we get the more the craving grows. It’s a vicious circle that engulfs us in the process of attaining material pleasure and happiness of the body and mind. Unless a person is happy inside, he/she can never enjoy peace, because peace has nothing to do with earthly pleasures. A so called pauper can be much at peace with life than a prince, if his life is need driven rather than greed driven. It takes very little to be happy, but our greed inveigles us to into doing things that we would not otherwise have done, thus resulting in high level of stress, aggravation and agitation. Time is ripe to cogitate on this impending evil that is gradually but steadily enshrouding our lives.

While delving the issue certain things come to the fore-
  1. People living in big cities undergo major amount of stress and agitation.
  2. Higher the echelon, more the stress.
